Haggala Botanical Garden

Haggala Botanical Garden is the second largest garden in Sri Lanka. The garden is contiguous to Haggala Strict Nature Reserve.



Location and climate Haggala Botanical Garden is situated on the Nuwara Eliya - Badulla main road, 16km from Nuwara Eliya.



Haggala is very cool climate area of Sri Lanka.  The garden has a cool temperate climate because of altitude is 5,400 feet above the sea level. The mean annual temperature ranges between 16°C to 30°C during course of a year. From December to February it has a cold climate, while the warm climate persists from April to August.



In December to February month’s high amount of mist covered all areas of Haggala Mountain and also Haggala Botanical Garden. Temperature of is changed between 2 to 10 Celsius values. Several experiments and research about local flora are handled in Haggala Botanical Garden. Several types of Roses and other beautiful Orchids flowers can be seen in Haggala Botanical Garden.



Visitor attraction There are over 10,000species of flora planted here and during the Spring season in Nuwara Eliya thousands of visitors come to see the blooms here. Number of annual visitors is around 500,000.
